Get A Sea Themed Garden With A Mermaid Bird Bath

A bird bath can attract a wide variety of wild bird species to your backyard and if you want a whimsical sea theme, you might try a mermaid bird bath. The mermaid theme ties right in with the use of water and will give your garden an interesting appeal.

When choosing a bird bath, you want to be sure to pick one that not only looks good but that is practical for the birds too. The most important thing to take into consideration is the depth of the bowl. The perfect depth is around 3” - you don’t want it to be any deeper since birds don’t really like to submerge themselves. If you find a birdbath that you love but it is too deep, don’t despair as you can remedy this by filling the bowl with small pebbles, or maybe even some sea glass. Also, be sure to choose a bird bath that has a non-slippery surface so your feathered friends can get a good perch.

When placing your mermaid bird bath in the garden, you want it to be a focal point, but you also want to be sure to put it where the birds can feel safe. If your birdbath is in a spot where predators can gain easy access to the birds then they won’t be able to enjoy their daily bath and won’t frequent your birdbath!

If you are creating a tropical or sea theme in your garden, you might try also adding some whimsical bird feeders in the shape of sea creatures and spread some large conch shells and other seaside decorations around the garden.

If you live in a climate that has harsh winters, you really should consider adding a heater to the bird bath. This way the birds that are used to coming to your yard for the open water will have a safe refuge in the icy winter. This is really important especially if there is no open water near - birds need water to survive!

Wild birds don’t really care if you have a mermaid bird bath or a plain old bowl, but one thing they do care about is a clean bird bath with fresh water. Therefore, you should plan to clean the birdbath out regularly especially when the weather is very warm.
